Does Arsenic Exposure Have a Role in Development of Thyroid Disease?

Abstract: Several animal studies indicate arsenic toxicity can affect thyroid hormone metabolism. There is no study in the English scientific literature of the relationship between thyroid disease and arsenic exposure in human population. The Indian state of West Bengal is affected by arsenic contamination of ground water. According to the World Health Organisation 6 of the 23 districts of West Bengal are higher affected areas.

Dislodged Gastrostomy Tube in a Delirious Patient with Advanced Laryngeal Cancer

Abstract: A 71-year-old female patient undergoing radiotherapy for head and neck cancer received a radiologically inserted gastrostomy (RIG) tube due to dysphagia and high risk of aspiration. Previous to this, it was necessary to have a radiologically guided nasogastric tube (NGT) inserted due to tumour related anatomical distortion in the laryngopharynx. This was pulled out or fell out on multiple occasions. On the first postoperative day after RIG tube insertion, nursing staff found the patient in her room with the tubing cut and RIG removed including the bumper.

Abstract: The proximity between nasal and sinus structures and the orbit causes ocular complications to occur with some frequency in endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS). Among them, vascular ones are rare. Only 3 cases of post-ESS retinal artery obstruction have been published to date. Mini Caldwell-Luc - How We Do It

Abstract: Functional endoscopic sinus surgery has become the standard of care for chronic sinus disease. However, even with angled endoscopes it is difficult to visualize the entire maxillary sinus and a failure to do so often leads to incomplete disease clearance. This article describes our variation-the Mini Caldwell Luc (MCL) procedure, which we have found effective in disease clearance with minimal morbidity.
